Ageing Carers Project

The Project commenced in 1997 as “Operation be my Friend” with the aim to provide respite for parent carers of adult children with disabilities and to look to the future when the parent is no longer able to provide the care. Southern Cross Care (NSW and ACT) has included some limited accommodation provision.

Discussions between Catholic Care and Federal Members are ongoing to secure a permanent source of funding to build a facility and its continued operation. It is hoped the Disabilities Insurance Scheme will provide funding for both capital and operational costs for accommodating the needs for ageing carers and those needing care.
